Fashion Models / Editorial Models - Female

Editorial or High Fashion Models are the types of models (or supermodels) you most often see in magazines such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and Elle and who walk the runway for major fashion designers such as Calvin Klein, Versace, Gucci, Chanel and others.

Editorial models are generally a minimum of 5' 9" - 6' 0" and start their modeling careers before the age of 21. Their measurements are in the range of 34 - 24 - 34.

Fashion Models / Editorial Models - Male

Editorial or male fashion models also work in the major fashion magazines and do runway work for major designers. They are generally 6' 0" - 6' 2" and wear a 40 Regular jacket. Editorial male models should have their careers started before the age of 23 - 25 at the most.

Glamour Models - Female

Glamour models is the term generally used for female models who do modeling work such as swimsuit modeling, lingerie modeling and sometimes semi-nude modeling. Glamour models tend to be curvier and more voluptuous than editorial or fashion models.

Runway Models - Female and Male

There was time when there were specific types of models who did runway modeling and those who did print modeling and rarely did a model do both runway modeling and print modeling.

Runway models were exotic with long necks and limbs and could have unique facial characteristics such as prominent noses and very high cheekbones. Print models had perfect facial features and rarely had unique characteristics, they were simply beautiful.

The industry changed forever in the early 80's when the designer Versace began using print models like Cindy Crawford, Stephanie Seymour and others for their runway shows. This was the beginning of the Supermodel Era. Supermodels were models who did it all, from print to runway to television and film. Today to become a Supermodel or a fashion model who earns a substantial income you need to be able to do runway modeling as well as print modeling.

Commercial Models

Unlike editorial models, commercial models have a much wider range of specifications in which to work.

Commercial models can be any age, any height and any size. Commercial models generally have much longer careers than editorial models because of the wide rage of jobs and types of work.

Commercial models can do print work, television commercials, corporate and training videos, films and many other types of jobs. Good commercial models must master a wide range of looks and emotions on camera to promote their client's products.

Plus Size Models

Plus size models are more in demand than ever before and many of the top international modeling agencies now have plus size divisions in addition to their editorial divisions. Plus size models range from a size 10 and up and are generally
5' 8" to 5' 10".

Petite Models

Petite models are generally 5' 2" to 5' 6" with good body proportions. Petite models are hired most often for swimsuit, lingerie, jewellery and other types of jobs where fine bone structure and body size is important.

Parts Models

Parts models are models who specialize in hand modeling, foot modeling, leg modeling and other body part modeling. This is a very specialized area and it takes more than just having a nice manicure or attractive legs to do this type of modeling.

In addition to having perfectly proportioned hands, feet, legs, etc., body part models are meticulous about taking care of their special features. There are lots of stories about hand models wearing special gloves 24 hours a day and never using their hands to do daily chores such as washing dishes or opening jars and soda cans or doing anything that could harm their valuable assets.
